Canadians are dismissing Outside Magazine’s claim that the Grouse Grind in North Vancouver, British Columbia is one of the world’s ten most dangerous hiking trails.
The fact that there have been three deaths on the trail since 1999 and lots of rescues, some necessitating 12 rescuers, were cited as reasons the magazine finds the Grouse Grind so dangerous.
But the numbers don’t look so bad when you consider that at times there are 6,000 hikers a day on the trail.

Sure the hike is steep, but there are stairs and ropes to aid hikers.
“Not a deadly trail”
“This is not a deadly trail,” said Tim Jones of North Shore Rescue, a volunteer organization. He added calling it so is a joke and ridiculous.
Many hikers agree and were surprised to learn the Grouse Grind was named along with Peru’s “Hike of Death” and the Drakensberg Travers in South Africa which has had 55 fatal accidents since 1985.
