The Toronto police officer charged with the murder of teenager Sammy Yatim on July 27 has been released on bail. Four people, including Constable James Forcillor’s wife, have posted the $510,000 bond for him.
A video posted on line and viewed by 1.8 million people shows Yatim alone on a streetcar when he was shot three times, fell, and was shot another six times. He was then tasered. He later died in hospital.
The incident provoked a huge public outcry.
The next court date is September 30 and a publication ban is in effect.
