Canadian train and airplane builder Bombardier has signed a preliminary deal for the sale and assembly of up to 100 high-speed turboprop planes in Russia. The Q400 model plane is currently assembled in the Toronto area and the Canadians Auto Workers union says it will fight any transfer of work away from there.
Up to $3.39 million is what the deal could be worth if the agreement is finalized in 2014. Bombardier’s sales for regional-jets are down in North America and Europe so it is looking to shift some of its business to the growing Russian market.
Bombardier headquarters are in Montreal, Canada. It employs more than 65,000 people around the world.
