Western Canadian Gord Bamford won five awards at the Canadian Country Music Awards gala in Edmonton, Alberta on Sunday night. He took top prizes for best album, single of the year, best video, songwriter of the year and record producer of the year.

Last year’s rising star, Kira Isabella became this year’s best female artist, while Dean Brody was dubbed male artist of the year.
This year’s rising star award went to Bobby Wills.
Country music is popular in Canada, particularly in the west and that sector of the music industry is performing better than others in terms of CD sales.
Other winners included Terri Clark for fan choice award and the Stellas won Group/Duo of the year.
