City of Montreal election campaign officially started today

The election campaign in Canada’s second largest city, Montreal, started officially on Friday (September 20).

Montrealers will vote on November 3, for the mayor of the city, the mayor of their borough, a councillor for the borough, and a councillor for the electoral riding.

Even though the campaigning has officially begun, anyone interested in running for the offices of city mayor, borough mayor, city councillor or borough councillor can still file nomination papers. They must be filed by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013.

Throughout the province of Quebec more than a thousand municipalities will also be holding elections on November 3. In the city of Lac Megantic, where a train derailment devastated the centre of the community and killed almost 50 people, the election has been postponed for two years.
