A 30-metre-long dinosaur fossil was dug up by a backhoe operator working near Spirit River in the western province of Alberta. Fossil finds abound in that province.
Thinking he had simply chipped off a section of rock, the backhoe operator laid a piece of the fossil to the side and returned to his work excavating for a pipeline for Acuren Group Inc. That’s when he saw the part of the fossil remaining in the embankment in front of him.
The site was immediately shut down and palaeontologists from the Tyrell Museum and National Geographic arrived to investigate the find about 1.5 meters deep in the Saddle Hills area.
