Aboriginal protests planned across Canada

The Idle No More movement plans over 63 protests across Canada today to raise awareness about native issues. The movement formed one year ago to oppose government legislation that people saw as eroding their treaty and indigenous rights.

It also sought to push for action to remedy emergency situations that exist in many First Nations communities. Access to clean drinking water, substandard housing and high suicide rates plague many of those communities.

Solidarity events are planned in over 12 countries.

The action comes as the advocate for aboriginal peoples begins a nine-day tour of Canada.
