Fully 90% indicated the city was on the right track to becoming an even better city.  Some 86% said the local government was open and accessible, and almost the same number (85%) felt their neighbourhoods were safe.

Some 80% said they were “very or somewhat” satisfied with Calgary transit, which is a six point improvement from last year.

While paying tax is never popular, 65% of respondents said they receive good value for their property taxes.

With respect to the disastrous flooding the city had to deal with in June, 99%  of respondents said they’re satisfied with the city’s emergency response, while 95% said the city effectively communicated to citizens about evacuations, road closures, transit disruptions and loss of services.

As for quality of life for residents, the survey indicates  it continues to improve, with 88% agreeing they’re happy, marking a 10% boost from just three years ago in 2010.

The annual survey is called “the Citizen Satisfaction Survey”

In its annual survey published by the UK-based Economist Intelligence Unit of the world’s most liveable cities, in 2013 Calgary tied for fifth spot with Adelaide in Australia.  Calgary was also 5th in 2012 and 2011.

The Economist group analyzes 30 factors to establish its annual rankings, including stability, health care, culture, environment, education, infrastructure and personal safety.
