The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has published its “naughty and nice” list, and it is not good news for Alberta Premier Alison Redford.
The federation placed Redford at the top of its provincial government “naughty” list for staying at a hotel in Washington, D.C. that charged $876 a night.
The federation also says the premier’s posted expense claims show she charged taxpayers for $22 coffees and a $31 hamburger while in Washington.
The federation later said on its website that Redford’s office had clarified that the $22 claimed for coffees was for pots of coffee.
The federation didn’t stop there. It says Redford expenses in 2013 included an almost $8,000 airfare to New Brunswick and a $6,000 flight to Chicago.
The taxpayers group also singled out Alberta Deputy Premier Thomas Lukaszuk. He spent more than $9,000 on a trip to Europe and claimed 17 flights between Edmonton and Calgary.
Lukaszuk was also serving as advanced education minister until a recent cabinet shuffle.
Alberta Justice Minister Jonathan Denis headed the federation’s “nice” list for “having the most boring expense claim two years’ running.”
Alberta has an expense disclosure policy that directs senior government officials to post their expenses online.
