Oscar’s Canadian contenders

The 86th Annual Academy Awards will be one of the most-watched television shows again this year.  And Canada has some high-profile attendees.

Jean-Marc Vallee, while not nominated for directing his film ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ will attend the ceremony on Sunday March 2nd.  It has been confimed he is nominated under a pseudonym along with Montrealer Martin Pensa for Best Editing.  The star of the film, Matthew McConaunghey, is the man many say will win Best Actor for his performance in the film.

And ‘The Lady in Number 6’, is nominated in the documentary category.  Montrealer Malcolm Clarke’s loving look at Alice Herz-Sommer, who until last Sunday, was the world’s oldest pianist at 109, and the oldest holocaust survivor.

Alice Herz-Sommer lived in London, England with a joy for life she fully credted to music.
