Toronto’s Globe and Mail newspaper lead the nominations for Canada’s 65th annual National Newspaper Awards with 14 nominations. The announcement was made Monday (March 17). Close behind the Globe was the Toronto Star with 13 nominations.
There are a total of 69 finalists in 22 categories, selected from 1,206 entries for work published in 2013. Of 57 newspapers and online sites to submit entries, 22 organizations have been nominated as finalists.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Charlottetown, in the province of Prince Edward Island on Friday, May 30.
This is the 65th year for the awards program.
The National Newspaper Awards were established in 1949 by the Toronto Press Club. Since 1989, the awards have been governed by a Board of Governors representing both daily newspaper companies and the public.
