John Baird, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs visited the Second World War Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp today (Thursday).

Accompanied by Canada’s ambassador to Poland on his visit the German run death camps, he placed red and white flowers at the place known as “execution wall”, where inmates were shot, many of whom were Polish resistance fighters.
During their time of operation, some 1.1 million people, the majority Jewish, were killed at the Auschwitz-Birkenau camps through starvation, forced labour, disease, and outright execution.
Minister Baird met with Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radek Sikorski, following the trip to the memorial.
