Pubic health officials say the city of Toronto will be handing out some $20,000 worth of condoms during World (gay) Pride festival.
The city will host the huge international event from June 20-29.
Health officials will unveil the Toronto-branded condoms on June 4 and say the idea is that when condoms are more readily available, people tend to use them more.
The condoms, which the health agency is calling “condomTO” will be available in bars, clubs, hotels, gyms and clinics across Toronto but concentrated in the downtown area more commonly known as the gay village area.
Officials note that Toronto is joining two other major urban centres, New York City and Los Angeles, which also have their own municipally branded condoms.
As part of World Pride, Toronto also plans to hold a mass gay wedding ceremony on June 26. They are expecting about 200 couples to take part.
