Rescuers cleared the fluid from the calf’s nose and it was picked up by a nearby zoo/sanctuary.
Veterinarians then gave the newborn “colostrum” the critical first milk needed to give antibodies to newborns, and have named the female calf “Star”
More moose milk is coming from Ontario and she is reported doing well, with a 9 out 10 chance of surviving.

Daniel Gagnon, one of the owners of the Falardeau Zoo, says that Star will live at a sanctuary with other rescued animals. (photo Radio-Canada) CLICK to enarge
Owners of the Falardeau zoo point out that as rescued animals as in this case, are not supposed to be released back in the wild and so the calf will likely stay at the Falardeau Zoo and join four other adults currently there.
