Rescued baby doing well

He’s already been seen by seen by vast numbers of American on American television, and his youTube video has 5,000 visitors as of today.
The baby male porcupine was found near Truro, Nova Scotia after a dog owner found quills in his pet’s face. Porcupines quills are soft when born, but quickly harden.

The next day they followed the dog and found the baby porcupine, which they left alone. The following day they found the baby had not moved and seemed weak and so he was taken to the Copequid Wildlife Rehab Centre. The Centre, run by veterinarian Helene Van Doninck out of her home, usually treats wild birds, but occasionally helps animals like “Porc” as she’s named him.

She believes he was orphaned as many porcupines, not particulary fast moving, are often killed on the roadways.

He needed a de-lousing treatment with cat and dog delouse, and then began eating a combination of dog milk replacement and strawberry yogourt, previously tested with success on a baby squirrel.

She says he’ll eventually be released back into the wild without the name adding that she normally doesn’t name animals as she doesn’t want people to get the impression they’re pets.
In the meantime, he seems to be growing quite well in the week or so he’s been in the Centre’s care.
