Celine Dion puts singing career on hold

World-famous Canadian singer Celine Dion has put her show business activities on hold to devote herself to her ailing husband and their three young children. Husband and former manager, 72-year-old Rene Angelil has been treated for cancer several times, most recently in December.

Dion’s regular performances at a theatre built for her in Las Vegas have been cancelled since July 29 when she suffered an undisclosed illness. That left her with inflamed throat muscles. Each show had earned her half a million dollars. An Asian tour scheduled for the fall has also been cancelled.

Dion apologizes to fans “for inconveniencing them” on her website.

The couple have three children, a boy of 13 and twins who are three years old.
