Justin Bieber, the Canadian pop sensation, pleaded guilty to two lesser charges in connection with the Miami Beach street-racing incident on January 23rd, 2014.
Miami police described it as an illegal street race between Bieber in a rented Lamborghini and a Ferrari driven by R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff. Neither was charged with drag racing and there was little evidence they were even exceeding posted speed limits.
Bieber plead guilty to misdemeanor careless driving and resisting arrest without violence charges, rather than the initial DUI charge.
The 20-year-old star’s plea deal includes a 12-hour anger management course, a charitable donation of $50,000 and court fines. This deal allows Bieber to avoid the driving under the influence conviction.
Other legal battles
Last month another criminal case was settled when Bieber pleaded no contest to a misdemeanour vandalism charge for throwing eggs at a neighbour’s house in Los Angeles. He agreed to pay more than $80,000 in damages and meet several other conditions.
Charged with assaulting a limo-driver in Toronto at the end of December, Bieber’s lawyers say he is not guilty in that case.
