A Silver Cross Mother is the one woman chosen each year by the National Legion, to lay a wreath at the National War Memorial on Remembrance Day on behalf of all the Canadian mothers who lost a child while on active duty.
This year it is Gisele Michaud. Her youngest son, Master-Corporal Charles-Philippe was gravely wounded in Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2009 when he stepped on an improvised explosive device.
He was transported to a hospital in Quebec City where he died almost two weeks later.
Master-Corporal Charles-Philippe Michaud served in Bosnia, Lithuania and did two tours in Afghanistan. He received several medals including the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and the General Campaign Star-International Security. He joined the Armed Forces in 2000.
The Rememberance Day Ceremony takes place in Ottawa on November 11th each year.
