There's a new Ford F350 down there. It broke through the ice on Pontoon Lake near Yellowknife Tuesday night.

New Ford F350 truck goes through the ice in Yellowknife

Gone!

Well actually, if you’re very careful, you can see the new truck resting neatly on the lake floor about 4.5 metres under the ice.

That’s how Francois Rossouw saw it  when he rode his bike out on the lake to check; “Some of the candled ice was blocking my view, so I pulled some of the ice out,” he said.

“I laid down and looked into the hole and I could see the truck perfectly.”

The man driving the truck escaped unharmed and walked to Rossouw’s house Tuesday night.

Rossouw said he did not get the driver’s name, but he said he calmly explained what had happened, and said the truck was new.

The massive hole is visible to drivers on the Ingraham trail about 30 km outside of Yellowknife on Pontoon Lake.

It appears that no fuel is leaking out of the engine or fuel tank, but there is no word yet on plans to retrieve the truck.
