Anti-Islamic State meeting ends in Quebec City

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and how to defeat its advances was the gathering point for representatives from 20 countries,at the Chateau Frontenac hotel in Quebec City on Thursday.

The closed door meeting ended with Canada’s Foreign Minister Rob Nicholson promising $8.3 million to Iraq and neighbouring countries to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria,

Nicholson said the money will go to defence programs in Iraq, and provide non-lethal equipment to countries in the region, to help them secure their borders and contain the flow of foreign fighters.

“We will not stand idly by while [ISIS] and its affiliates continue their murderous rampage in an attempt to wreak havoc across the region, spawn splinter cells from North Africa to South Asia and prey on youngsters in the West,” he said.

On June 2, an anti-ISIS coalition conference was held in in Paris.This meeting was the second time in two months representatives gathered behind closed doors to discuss and coordinate how to improve the the fight against ISIS.
