Catalonians, and people in the rest of Spain, are digesting the impressive showing in yesterday’s federal election. The Junts Pel Si (Together For Yes) party of secessionists won 62 seats of the 135-member regional parliament.
Artur Mas, leader of the Junts Pel Si party, said the result supports Calatonia’s new government in their quest to seek independence from Spain, even though the constitution forbids it.
Here in Canada, Quebec sovereigntists are celebrating the victory as well. “It is exciting to see all these people working toward their dream of freedom.” said Parti Quebecois leader, Pierre Karl Peladeau, in a statement.
Carole Poirier, the PQ’s spokesperson on international relations, said the victory was “impressive”. She was in Barcelona, as the party’s official representative. She said the outcome shows that uniting “political and civic force” produces positive results.
