This week the recently elected Liberal government finally announced its new policy on the fight against ISIS (DEASH).
Not without controversy, Canada is pulling out its fighter jets from the U.S. led coalition and instead will focus on training Iraki Kurdish forces in northern Iraq.

This however is an even riskier mission for Canadian soldiers.

The head of Canada’s military forces, Chief of Defence Staff General Jonathan Vance was very open about these risks.
But to better understand what exactly these Canadian soldiers will be doing in this new role, and the dangers they face, Levon spoke to Steve Day.

He’s the former commander of Canada’s elite counter-terrorism unit called Joint Taks Force Two or JTF2. He was in charge of JTF2 during the war in Afghanistan.

Companies have come to rely on unpaid internships as a means to get more profits, charges the Canadian Intern Association. © CBC

Internship is a valuable way for students in a career path to gain valuable on-the-job, and real-world experience by working at a company for a short period during their school semester.

It was also seen as a potential way in to a company as they could assess the student, before actually hiring them if they were indeed searching for someone.

But increasingly there were complaints that businesses were simply using interns as “free labour”. as many were not paid for their work hours.

Lynn spoke with Andrew Langille, a lawyer with the Canadian Intern Association who wants to end the idea of accepting interns at no pay.

This year marks the anniversary of the death of one of the greatest literary figures in any language, and in history.  It has been 400 years since William Shakespeare died.

To mark the event, one of the continents biggest libraries at the University of Toronto, and their huge rare books library is marking the occasion with a special display.

Featured in the display is Canada’s only copy of the First Folio of collected Shakespeare works, itself just shy of 400 years old.

Along with it are other copies of rare and important Shakespeare works, other rare period-contemporary books he may have consulted in creating his plays, and a variety of Shakespeare publications.

Marc spoke with Anne Dondertman. She is Associate Chief Librarian for Special Collections at the University of Toronto, and Director of the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library.
