The Griffin Poetry Prize for 2016 is will be announced at the gala awards dinner on June 2, 2016, And the seven finalists have been announced.
The judges this year are, Canadian poet Adam Sol, Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy K. Smith and U.K. poet Alice Oswald. After reading more than 600 books of poetry from 43 countries the trio arrived at the shortlist.
The three titles on the Canadian shortlist are:
- Frayed Opus for Strings & Wind Instruments by Ulrikka S. Gernes, translated by Per Brask and Patrick Friesen
- Infinite Citizen of the Shaking Tent by Liz Howard
- Tell: poems for a girlhood by Soraya Peerbaye
The four titles on the International shortlist are:
- The Quotations of Bone by Norman Dubie
- Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings by Joy Harjo
- 40 Sonnets by Don Paterson
- Heaven by Rowan Ricardo Phillips
Established in 2000, the Griffin Poetry Prize is among the most lucrative poetry prizes in the world, awarding $65,000 (Cdn) to one Canadian, and one international title each year.
All of the poets on the shortlist, who perform at the Griffin Poetry Prize shortlist readings, scheduled for June 1 in Toronto, will receive $10,000 (Cdn.).
