The Tragically Hip are described as “Canada’s band”. Lead singer and songwriter, Gord Downie, is referred to as our “unofficial poet laureate” for his lyrics about the people, places and experiences of this country. In May, he announced that he’d been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, and that the band’s summer tour would go ahead. Now Canadians are making pilgimages to see the five members they’ve seen so many times over the last 30 years, for the last time together. The CBC is simulcasting their final show on August 20th.
