Drake postpones show in hometown Toronto

Drake, the Toronto-born, Grammy-award winning rapper and platinum-selling recording artist, is disappointing some of his home-town fans this weekend.

Due to an ankle injury he has been forced to post-pone some shows in his ongoing Summer Sixteen tour. The show in Montreal Friday night will take place, and the first show in Toronto on Saturday night will go ahead, but the second show, Sunday night has been postponed.

“I am crushed to even be typing this announcement because I feel like I am letting my fans in these cities down,” Drake wrote on his label’s blog.

He said the affected cities include his hometown of Toronto, as well as Philadelphia. He will perform one of two scheduled shows in Newark, New Jersey.

“I hate to be told I can’t do something,” he wrote. “But under doctor’s orders to allow me to recuperate, I am being forced to postpone the intense three shows in a row, in cities which have only ever shown me unconditional support.”

Aubrey “Drake” Graham is the son of Sandi and Dennis Graham. His father, an African American from Memphis,Tennessee, is a drummer who worked with Jerry Lee Lewis. His mother is Jewish Canadian.

Drake’s interest in performing began early, during the summers spent with his dad in Memphis. It was on these visits he developed the appreciation and understanding of music that now influences the much-loved sound he creates.

There is no word yet on when the postponed shows will take place, but ticket holders have been told they’ll be advised by e-mail.
