Instead of the money going straight to the airports, the money will be administered by local regions, which could choose to spend the money on other infrastructure projects, reports Swedish Radio News.

Many of the smaller airports around the country are run by local councils, and in many cases are reliant on the state cash to stay open.

Of the 21 small airfields around Sweden, only nine in the North of the country will continue to get guaranteed funding. The other 14 will be dependent on their local regions for the subsidies.
