Sweden’s Supreme Court blocks Gotland quarry

The Swedish Supreme Court has blocked a contested plan for a limestone quarry in Bunge on the island of Gotland in southeast Sweden.
Demonstrations last year brought the work on the quarry to a halt before the matter was referred to the courts.
The site spans two of the EU’s Natura 2000 protected areas.
In removing the permit for Nordkalk to work the site, the Supreme Court says in a press release that the case must be reconsidered by an environmental court.
