The Talvivaara mine in east Finland may lay off over a third of its 600 employees, the mining company said in a press release on Tuesday.

The troubled firm says it is revamping its operations in all of its three business units, Talvivaara Mining Company Plc, Talvivaara Sotkamo Ltd and Talvivaara Exploration Ltd, due to the poor price development of nickel, its main product.

Talvivaara has also suffered from weak financial performance and environmental difficulties.
