According to the Stockholm city planning department, if all 3 million of this year’s Swedish Christmas trees were recycled, they could heat 4,000 apartments or 1,200 houses for an entire year.

A single recycled tree, they say, provides enough power to run three full washing machine loads.

Swedes are encouraged to take their trees after the holidays to their apartment trash rooms, recycling centers, or special municipal collection sites.
