Finnish Lapland sees season’s first snow cover
Overnight precipitation in Lapland brought three centimetres of snow to Kilpisjärvi in Enontekiö.
Other parts of the far northwest of Finnish Lapland got a heavy dose of sleet.
According to the official standard used by the Finnish Meteorological Institute, there must be a centimetre of snow measured on the ground at a weather station by 9 AM on the day in question in order to be classed as a ‘first snow’.
More precipitation is expected in Lapland on Tuesday, possibly including more snow. In southern Finland the forecast is for temperatures to rise to nearly 20 degrees Celsius.
The next few days will bring unsettled weather with intermittent rain across the country.
