Motorcyclist faces big fine after police chase

Among the things you should not do in the province of Quebec is ride a motorcycle without license plates at speeds of 185km while police are chasing you, particularly if you only have a learner’s driving permit.

A man from Gatineau is accused of doing just that on the night of Tuesday, July 29. The man was going so fast, police called off the chase for safety reasons. Eventually he crashed but was uninjured.

He is now facing a fine of $3,500 and 22 demerit points on his driving record. An accumulation of demerit points usually leads to an increase in insurance premiums and if there are enough of them, a long suspension of a driver’s licence.

In this case, the learner’s permit has been suspended for seven days. The motorcycle has been impounded for 30 days. The motorcyclist also faces charges including evading police and dangerous driving.
