The next Canadian basketball star?

NBA scouts are in Toronto this week as the league is hosting a gathering of the best 60 players in the Americas.

Young players have come from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, but the best player may have come from just down the QEW, in Burlington, Ontario.

Simi Shittu is only 14 years-old, but at six-foot-eight inches tall, 200 pounds, and still growing, he shows a lot of promise.

Selected as one of Canada’s top players under 17, he’s also one of the youngest in this group.  “It’s a very great experience, playing with people from different parts of the world interacting with them,” Simi told the CBC.

The NBA has discovered some great talent in Canada recently, with the last two drafts having Canadian players selected number one.

Anthony Bennett of Toronto was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2013, and this summer, Andrew Wiggins also from Toronto, was the other number one pick.

Simi Shittu won’t be eligible until 2017, and in the meantime with NBA scouts looking on, Shittu says, “I’m just working on showing them how I can dominate on both ends of the floor.”
