A Canadian naval vessel has made one of the largest heroin seizures at sea. Crew members of the HMCS Toronto seized worth about $100-million from a boat in the Indian Ocean on Friday. “There’s definitely a link between these narcotics and terrorism,” said Cmdr. David Patchell, “and by stopping narcotics on the high seas…we know that the financial nodes of terrorism are being attacked.”
The HMCS Toronto is one of several Canadian ships that have been patrolling the Indian Ocean and Horn of Africa since the September 1, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. An international task force has been trying to interrupt the transportation of narcotics from southwest Asia. (ld)
