Public sector union tries out humour with ‘Harper says’ web site

One of Canada’s largest unions wants Canadians to have their say about the policies of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. But the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) wants them to have fun at the same time.

The union, one of Canada’s largest unions, which represents some 180,000 public servants across the country is using photos of the Prime Minister in different situations, with voice and thought bubbles above his head.

The what he said captions include phrases like “Citizens these cuts are for your own good” and “As you can see nature is well protected in Canada“.

Visitors can type in what they think the Prime Minister is really thinking.

It’s all part of a larger attempt by the union to make the Canadian public aware of the impact of public sector budget cuts.

RCI’s Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to Larry Rousseau, PSAC’s Regional Executive Vice President, National Capital Region, about the web site and why the union put it up.

Shortly after our interview, PSAC decided to take down the web site because of a number of inappropriate comments that had been put up. They are considering implementing a system that would moderate comments, before they become public.
