Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers touring Canada

They’re back and they’re playing 20 dates across Canada.  Not all the original players are here, but Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers have been selling-out most of the venues booked.  The Bay City Rollers were the Scottish pop band that was a sensation in the 1970’s, and Les McKeown was the front-man.

The group was responsible for hits like Money Honey, I Only Want to be With You and Saturday Night, but Les McKeown grew to detest the music as the band was increasingly ridiculed for their bubble gum sound.

He eventually began a downward slide into alcohol and drug addiction until a fight in 2008 landed him in hospital.  He says a four-month stay in rehab in California turned his life around.  He is now on a tour that will take the band to sold-out dates in Japan and over 35 shows in England.  He hopes the original members might be motivated to join him in a reunion.

Asked by a CBC interviewer if he had any advice for current Canadian pop-sensation, Justin Beiber, Les McKeown said “just try to keep your head on straight”
