Sex trade workers are travelling to the eastern province of Newfoundland and Labrador because business is good. Long an economically depressed region of eastern Canada, this province is booming with oil and gas development, the building of a hydro-electric dam, and two big base metal projects.

Women are travelling from as far away as Vancouver, about 5,000 km, to make money on prostitution. Internet postings make booking easy. One high-class escort told the domestic broadcaster, CBC, she was earning $300 an hour and has regular clientele willing to pay the price.
According to her, the sex industry has exploded in Newfoundland and Labrador. “The local girls that have decided to take it up as a profession, the clientele — everything has boomed in the last 16 months,” she said.
