Anti-abortionists rally to revive debate

Abortions have become commonly available in Canada after years of highly divisive debate and legal battles. Few politicians want to re-open the controversial issue. However pro-life activists are using a new angle to try to rekindle support.

Gender selection is a process whereby pregnant women find out the gender of their fetus and choose to abort the females. It’s not clear just how widespread the practice is in Canada.

Some members of parliament of the governing conservative party have attempted to raise the issue in Parliament and have been talked out of it in caucus meetings.

Today thousands of protesters will take up the cause on Parliament Hill when they march in the annual anti-abortion rally.
