Embattled Toronto mayor calls media “maggots”

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford denounced members of the media for reporting allegations he was caught on a cellphone video appearing to puff on a crack cocaine pipe. Ford says the video does not exist. The video has not been viewed publicly but two reporters from the Toronto Star reported they had seen it. The Star notes however, it has no way to verify the authenticity of the video.

Police spoke to one of the mayor’s senior staffers about a tip linking the video and a recent Toronto homicide, reports the Globe and Mail newspaper.

Despite the ongoing controversy, Mayor Ford says he’s looking forward to campaigning for re-election next year.
