Frosh video sparks outrage

A short video posted on-line has gone viral showing Canadian university students chanting about underage sex with girls without consent. The video shows orientation students leading a cheer about the sexual preferences of men at Saint Mary’s University in the eastern city of Halifax.

The university is promising disciplinary action and has ordered frosh leaders and the entire student union executive to take sensitivity training. The president of the student union called the incident an oversight and apologized.

The incident is particularly abhorrent to the citizens of Halifax who have been grappling with the suicide of a teenager who was allegedly sexually assaulted and harassed.

Frosh incidents abound

It’s not the first time frosh shenanigans have outraged a community. Students at the University on Montreal got in trouble for painting their faces black in 2011. One would think they had learned a lesson, but no. This year they donned aboriginal accessories and made headlines again.

Students are returning to university across the country and administrators anxiously wait for the worst of frosh activities to end.
