Iconic sailboat finally re-launched

After a 16-million-dollar, three-year restoration, the Bluenose II was finally back in Atlantic waters off the coast of the province of Nova Scotia. The sailboat is a replica of one launched in 1921. The original schooner was famous for winning every race in 18 years of competition and is now featured on Canada’s ten-cent coin.

Cost overruns and delays have plagued efforts to refit Bluenose II. It will have to undergo several sea trials before it can resume its role as Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador.
