A musical about Canada’s famous Anne of Green Gables story is going to be made into a film. The original book written by Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1908 has been translated into more than a dozen languages and has sold 50 million copies around the world.
Anne is a fictional young orphan girl who is sent to a middle-aged brother and sister who have a farm in Canada’s eastern province of Prince Edward Island. The farmers were expecting to get a boy to help them out. The story describes how the red-headed girl makes her way on the farm, in school and in the town.
The story has been wildly popular and has boosted tourism in Prince Edward Island. The musical has played every summer for 50 years in the capital, Charlottetown.
Producing the film will be the company The Film Farm. It is known for producing successful works by famous Canadians Sarah Polley and Atom Egoyan.
