Faced with a House of Commons that will not return until October 16, the Official Opposition NDP party decided to hold the Commons Question Period on Twitter on Monday (September 16).

On Friday, Canada’s Governor General David Johnston prorogued parliament on the advice of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The parliament was to resume September 16.

“Stephen Harper has padlocked Parliament and is preventing MPs from doing their job,” said Mulcair. “MP’s should be back in parliament today, working to find solutions to the challenges facing people.”

Just before 2:15PM when the daily Question Period starts, the Official Opposition’s House Leader Nathan Cullen tweeted:

Official Opposition Leader Thomas Mulcair shot off the first question to the Prime Minister:

A number of Official Opposition MPs also added their questions using the hashtag #qpq.
