The Mexican ambassador to Canada, Francisco Suarez, says says his country is “really mad” at the Canadian government for continuing to impose travel visas on Mexican visitors.
The ambassador told the Canadian Press news agency’s Mike Blanchfield that if the issue is not resolved by next year Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto might postpone a planned visit to Canada.
“We’re now saying it’s a major irritant,” Suarez told Blanchfield. “We’re now really mad. … Canada has the most stringent visa system for Mexicans of any country in the world.”
In 2014, Mexico and Canada are planning to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the 70th anniversary of bilateral relations, Blanchfield writes in his article.
