Another bullied teen takes his life

Yet another Canadian teenage has chosen to end his life after enduring years of bullying. Todd Loik’s mother found his body two weeks before his 16th birthday at their home in North Battleford in the western province of Saskatchewan.

The attacks by playground bullies began years ago and the abuse escalated into “non-stop” cyperbullying, said Kim Loik.

Two police investigators are trying to determine if there are grounds to lay charges such as criminal harassment or the uttering of threats.

Other cases

This case comes hard on the heels of the death of teenager Rehtaeh Parsons in the eastern province of Nova Scotia in April. She attempted suicide and later died after sexually explicit photos of her were widely circulated on social media and she endured relentless harassment.

Four teens have been arrested in that case and are awaiting trial.

Teenager Amanda Todd killed herself in October 2012 at home in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia after she said she was blackmailed, bullied and assaulted.

Authorities are grappling with how to handle such cases and how to prevent them from happening in the first place.
