A conservation group has received a $52,753 donation to promote liasons between moose in the eastern provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The Nature Conservancy of Canada has been acquiring and maintaining a narrow strip of land which the large mammals travel to find mates.
Moose in Nova Scotia have become endangered with a population of only about 1,000. The moose population in New Brunswick is more robust at 29,000.
The latest grant is from a New-York based conservation charity and it will allow The Nature Conservancy to leverage more money from the Canadian government which has promised to match funding raised privately.
