Two Canadians finally allowed to leave Egypt

Egyptian authorities allowed Canadians John Greyson and Tarek Loubani to leave the country on Friday morning. They are expected to arrive in Toronto in the evening.

The two had been released from prison after 50 days of incarceration. They had been swept up in a mass arrest August 16 during violent anti-government demonstrations in Cairo. They never faced any formal charges.

Loubani, a doctor said he was in Egypt on his way to Gaza where he trained emergency doctors. Greyson is a Toronto filmmaker who was on his way to Gaza too for a project.

Canadian officials pressed hard for the release saying relations between the two countries would be damaged if they were not let go.
