Montreal’s ice hotel, ice bar, ice chapel and restaurant cannot afford to open this year and organizers are asking for government help so they can re-open next winter. The award-winning snow village was featured by CNN travel in January as one of the best frozen getaways in the world.

Many festivals in the province of Quebec get government funding. Montreal’s snow village has only operated for two years and organizers say it’s difficult to compete with established festivals for grants. They argue the snow village generates $13 million for the local economy and so, it should get support.
15 couples have married in the ice chapel and overall, snow village attracted about 200,000 visitors in each of the first two years.
