Canadian pop star Justin Bieber arrested after suspicion of drag-racing

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was arrested in the American resort city of Miami Beach early Thursday (January 23) and charged with driving under the influence and resisting arrest without violence after police said he had been stopped while “drag racing” down a street before dawn.

The 19-year-old was released after a judge set bail at $2,500 early Thursday afternoon.

Described by CTV News as the “once squeaky-clean pop star who captured the hearts of pre-teens and their mothers around the world with hits such as ‘Baby’ and ‘Boyfriend’ ” Bieber was born in the Canadian city of London and raised in nearby Stratford. He now lives in the Los Angeles area, and has had several incidents with law enforcement officials in the past month.
