Canadian castle for sale

People looking for a pied-a-terre in Canada may want to consider buying their own castle, replete with an on-site chapel, stained glass windows and parking in the eastern city of Moncton.

Up for sale is Castle Manor, a Gothic Revival-style edifice built between 1906 and 1908 as a care home for orphans and foundlings. It was later a home for seniors and then was abandoned.

Vandals got in and made a mess, as often happens with abandoned buildings in urban centres in Canada. However, volunteers have gone in to tidy it up.

“I’ve always loved this building and found it sad that it was basically rotting away over the years,” said Laurent Maillet who donated part of its weekend to the effort. “I hope they find a buyer and they do something with the building. It’s beautiful.”

The asking price is $699,000 Canadian.
