Governor-general seeks education exchange in India

Canada wants to double the number of foreign students it welcomes to the country’s universities, but Governor-General David Johnston also wants to send more Canadian students and teachers to other countries.

Johnston leaves for an eight-day visit to India on Saturday. He holds the largely ceremonial position of  Queen Elizabeth’s representative in Canada. But he is also a former president of the University of Waterloo and principal of McGill University.

He has long promoted research and educational exchanges which he says open Canada to the world and promote an expansion of trade.
